Summary of Standard BS/EN50075: Europlug Specifications and Testing Requirements

What is standard BS/EN50075?

The European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) formulated and issued Standard BS/EN50075. This standard pertains to flat, non - rewireable two - pole Europlugs that lack an earthing contact. They are rated at an alternating current voltage of 250V and a current of 2.5A. Supplied with a cord, these plugs are designed for connecting Class II equipment in household and comparable settings. Intended for indoor use only, they do not feature special safeguards against water ingress.

Tests involve in standard BS/EN50075

Testing procedures compliant with this standard encompass a variety of aspects. These include evaluations of dimensions and structural integrity, protection against electric shock, measurements of insulation resistance and dielectric strength, resistance to humidity, heat, and aging effects, assessment of mechanical robustness, and the ability of insulating materials to withstand abnormal heat and fire, among others.
